First Grade

Welcome to one of the most incredible years your child will have in his/her school career! First grade is an exciting time as children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning. This is a year of important transitions, as well as one in which acquisition of new skills is accelerated.

During First Grade, your child will learn how to read, write stories, add, subtract, and so much more. I hope to make your child's learning experience a fun and exciting one, and I hope to instill a love of learning that will last throughout your child's years of school.

It is extremely important to keep in mind that we all build on small successes. Please celebrate your child's success, not matter how small it may seem. This will keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work! Look for and read your child's planner every day. The planner needs to come back to school every day. Read to and with your child daily. Your child will bring home an A.R. book almost every day. Please have your child read this book at least two times and return it the next school day. Make sure you discuss the book with your child as they will be taking a quiz on the book at school.

I am so excited to be part of your child's first grade year. This is my 40th year of teaching. I previously taught Kindergarten for my first four years and my last 36 years have been in first grade. I love first grade and feel that our team is made up of outstanding teachers. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. The best ways are through your child's planner or through email. I know that as we work together we can help your child have a positive and successful First Grade experience.
