First Grade

Welcome to one of the most incredible years your child will have in his/her school career! First grade is an exciting time as children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning. This is a year of important transitions, as well as one in which acquisition of new skills is accelerated.

During First Grade, your child will learn how to read, write stories, add, subtract, and so much more. I hope to make your child's learning experience a fun and exciting one, and I hope to instill a love of learning that will last throughout your child's years of school.

It is extremely important to keep in mind that we all build on small successes. Celebrate your child's success, no matter how small it may seem. This will keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work! Look for and read your child's planner every day. The planner needs to come back to school every day. Read to and with your child daily. Your child will bring home an AR book almost every day. Please have your child read this book at least two times and return it the next school day. Make sure you discuss the book with your child as they will be taking a quiz on the book at school.

I am so excited to be part of your child's first grade year. I am in my 29th year of teaching having previously taught Kindergarten, First, Second, and Fourth Grades. I am enjoying 1st grade and feel that our team is made up of outstanding teachers. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. The best ways are through your child's planner or through email which I check daily. I know that as we work together we can help your child have a positive and successful 1st Grade
experience.

Thanks,
